Robin & Doug Clark
A seamless transition from 1929 to present was the goal in this 1600 sq. ft.
remodel in the historic Dundee neighborhood. KRT faced the task of blending
the beauty and character of this home with the comfort and efficiency of
modern design. The entire main floor was demolished to create an open floorplan
for this family. The oak floors, swirl pattern in the ceiling drywall, trim,
crown molding, doors and columns were all recreated to match the original
1929 design. Modern elements including granite counter tops and stainless
steel appliances were also incorporated into the new design.
During the remodel, one wall in the family room was uncovered and the original
1929 brick was found. KRT Construction and the homeowner
decided to leave this intact in order to once again preserve
the rich history of this home. On the exterior of the home,
the main entrance was relocated and designed to match the
1929 exterior. An outdoor brick column porch was added on
the south side of the home complete with tiles that are an
exact continuation of the Spanish-tile roof. A stamped concrete
walk that matches the existing red brick finishes this picture-perfect
home.
